Broadstreet ain’t got nothing on Glyncoch! We’ve got our very own Glyncoch Performers!!!

The Glyncoch Performers brought the house down at their shows in Craig yr Hesg School and the Community Centre. ‘GLYNCOCH – THE PERFORMANCE’ is about Glyncoch and some of the key issues facing the community. It was written and directed by the people of Glyncoch with support from scriptwriter and poet, Patrick Jones (he has written songs for the Manic Street Preachers!) and actress, Einir Sion (she has been in Satalite City!). At the show the audience voted on key issues in Glyncoch…and guess what? Play facilities was voted the number one priority!!!

The project had two important aims:

  1. To provide an opportunity for people to get involved in all aspects of theatre – scriptwriting, drama, scenery painting etc
  2. To find new ways of making Glyncoch the most democratic community possible! Some people don’t like attending meetings to have their say – so why not find more fun, enjoyable ways in which people can make their voices heared?

It was a really great show’ said Michelle Partridge, vice chair of Glyncoch Community Centre,’ they pulled it off brilliantly.  The youngest performers were just four years old, and the oldest were in their 50s! The intergenerational mix between children, teenagers and adults all working together to produce a show was really impressive.’ The project was sponsored by Creative Communities (funded by ERDF and RCT CBC) in partnership with Glyncoch Communities First and Glyncoch Community Centre and Church. Creative Communities Project Manager Kevin Jakeway ‘Glyncoch is such a creative community. There is an amazing mix of talent just in this one village’.

The Glyncoch performers are working on a new production for July 9th and 12th – look out for posters! You are also welcome to take part what ever your age – just come along to the community centre between 6.00pm and 8.00pm on Wednesdays. FREE DVDs of GLYNCOCH: THE PERFORMANCE are available from the Communities First office. Just call 01443 486496.
