Glyncoch Talent Strikes Again at KickJam!!
Another football tournament, another awesome display by the young footballers of Glyncoch who continue to represent the area at an amazingly high standard.

On 20th June, seventeen of our local youth participated in KickJam2, a football tournament arranged by Caerphilly Council’s Fast Forward Team. This year, the tournament had grown in both size and quality with 12 teams participating from all over Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taff, including 3 teams representing Glyncoch.

Every Glyncoch player gave an all-out performance with Glyncoch ‘A’ and Glyncoch ‘B’ team both reaching the quarter-finals. The previously unbeaten Glyncoch ‘B’ side narrowly lost their quarter final to Perthcelyn in an exciting 2-1 result whilst Glyncoch ‘A’s quarter-final was the longest game of the tournament with a 30 minute ‘golden goal’ (Considering that each game was only 5 minutes each way!!), following a 0-0 draw against the previous year’s winners thanks to an amazing performance from Glyncoch’s goalkeeper and new ‘star’ James Jones. Only a penalty shoot-out was the difference between the two teams where Glyncoch ‘A’ were extremely unfortunate to lose out 3-2.

Yet another fantastic performance from our Glyncoch players with James Jones being recognised as ‘Player of the Tournament’ by the Fast Forward staff and referees. All players gave their all and were an absolute credit to Glyncoch. Well done!!!

We are now looking for a team to represent Glyncoch at the forthcoming Coalfields ‘Game On’ football tournament on 21st July. At last year’s tournament, Glyncoch had 5 of their players selected to represent a Coalfields Welsh team against both England and Scotland. If interested, please contact Paul (See below for contact details). This tournament is unfortunately only open for 14-16yrs boys.

One final thing! - As proven through various tournaments, Glyncoch has a fantastic number of excellent footballers that would now like to start up their own club.
Dean Rattray has already begun coaching sessions with a number of our local players but we need to set up a committee in order to take things forward. Once a committee is formed, Communities First can help the team access funding for kit, equipment etc.
If you have an interest in helping Glyncoch form its own club, please contact Paul at the Communities First Office at 56 Garth Avenue or call 01443 486496 |
